If your plans for next Saturday involve stress-shopping at IKEA, maybe skip the meatballs and lingonberry sauce and instead walk across the street to the 9th annual Pig Island festival at Erie Basin Park in Red Hook. The festival will be held on September 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m..

More than 20 chefs will be cooking whole hogs from Flying Pigs Farm. Twenty chef stations are confirmed, including Pitmaster Matt Fisher from Fletcher's Brooklyn BBQ, Chef King Phojanakong of Kuma Inn, Chef Rob Cho of Kimchi Smoke, Chef Alonzo Santiago of Mexicue, and Mexico City Chef Davide Navarro at Jimmy’s No. 43 & East Village Meat Market. There will also be hot sauce representatives from NYC Hot Sauce Company and Rocket fuel hot sauce.

The all-inclusive $75 ticket (the price goes up to $85 on August 31) also gets you access to a bounty of booze, with beer from Sixpoint Craft Beer, five or more hard cider options, and spirits from Breuckelen Distilling, Van Brunt Stillhouse, and, yes, Pig’s Nose Scotch.

The community partner is Friends of the Firefighters, which supports the health and wellness needs of active and retired firefighters.
