Summer may be winding down, but there's still time to stuff yourself silly on the season's most iconic treat. Prepare for a brain freeze of epic proportions at this weekend's Ice Cream Sunday at the New Amsterdam Market, featuring frozen concoctions from some of the city's finest chefs.
The idea behind the event is to create eclectic flavors using seasonal ingredients, which is harder than it might seem in a chocolate-and-vanilla-dominated market. Chefs from The Bent Spoon, Marlow & Sons, Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream, Otto Pizzeria and more were challenged to create special creams specifically for this event, so expect some decidedly unique flavors. The competition is being judged by the expert taste-testing panel of Gabrielle Langholtz of Edible Brooklyn/Manhattan, Anne Saxelby of Saxelby Cheesemongers, and Jeffrey Steingarten of Vogue, who knows a thing or two about judging after his stint on Iron Chef.
Tickets for the event, which is on Sunday from 12-4 p.m., are available here; proceeds go toward the New Amsterdam Market.
