Tex-Pats and Longhorn Lovers (and BBQ lovers) can kick up their cowboy boots Saturday at the Texas Holiday Hoedown, a party and fundraiser for scholarships at the University of Texas. Thrown by the alumni group Texas Exes, the Hoedown gets down at Brother Jimmy's Union Square with a three hour open bar of liquor, wine and beer; passed barbecue hors d'oeuvres; and live music that encourages some two steppin'. Tickets are $60 for members, $65 for non.

Strong drinks, stiff competition, and badass women—is there anything not to like about Speed Rack? It's the sixth season of the bartender mix off slash fundraiser for breast cancer charities and it's going down this Sunday at Diamond Horseshoe on West 46th Street. Contestants compete in timed heats, shaking or stirring up classic cocktails for judgement on speed and accuracy. You can watch the women in action with a $25 ticket, which gets you a view of the competition in addition to punches made by liquor sponsors and something to eat as well.

Insa, the Korean BBQ and karaoke joint that opened in Gowanus last December, is now offering a Korean take on brunch from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Nosh on dishes including a restaurant take on "Shin" Ramen (a popular type of instant noodles), a Breakfast Hash with soy braised beef and a fried egg, and a Mochi Waffle (pictured above) with pear compote and maple syrup. They're also making a Bloody Mary with kimchi brine, which should aid in digesting all that food.
