The Smith, that boisterous East Village restaurant popular with NYU kids when their parents are buying, has branched out to midtown. The new location opened Saturday on Second Avenue at 51st Street. As you can see, it echoes the same design elements as the original (subway tiles as far as the eye can see!) with some new touches. The focal point as you enter is a large L-shaped zinc bar, and, unlike downtown, there's also a raw bar. This section can accommodate 45 guests, and includes a communal bar table.

The main dining room sets 150, and there is also a 70-seat room with a separate bar in the back of the restaurant that can be used for private dining. There's a reclaimed wood ceiling from a barn in Indiana and antique mirrors throughout, as well as a shoe shine stand as you enter the restrooms, plus a photo booth, you guys. Right now they're doing dinner (peruse the menu, which features many of the signature downtown dishes, below) but soon, Agent The Smith will expand, virus-like, into breakfast, lunch, and catering and delivery for all the offices in the area.
