Yesterday was the first day of the two-day Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, which is sponsored by Southern Living. Scott Lynch visited and took photographs of the mouthwatering fare—and the huge crowds.
The event has come a long way from its humble start on one small block (now it wraps around Madison Square Park) and features a wonderful sampling of pitmasters from all over the country. Check out the operation that the 17th Street Bar & Grill, headed by legendary champion pitmaster Mike MIlls, brought to town!
There are lots of people vying for the delicious fare, so be patient. One standout, according to Lynch, was the Smoked Sausage with Pimento Cheese from Jim 'n Nick's.
The gluttony starts up again at 11 a.m. at Madison Square Park. Plates are $9.
