If you happened to come across a giant chicken or killer tomato in lower Manhattan earlier, don't be alarmed—today was the 6th annual Veggie Pride Parade, with participants marching from the Meatpacking District to Union Square. We didn't spot any giant pink human colon costumes, but there were plenty of other interesting ones that you can click through in the photos above.
The parade was started by author Pamela Rice (“101 Reasons Why I’m a Vegetarian”) and is a celebration of all things vegan and vegetarian. It seems especially appropriate that this year's parade took place during the same week that one of the patron saints of vegetarians, Morrissey, vowed to continue singing "Meat Is Murder" as long as he humanely can. Below, check out a video from last year's parade.
