Usually, there are tears of joy at the euphoric sound of a champagne bottle popping open. But yesterday afternoon bubbly-lovers wept in despair when a tractor-trailer carrying many bottles of champagne crashed, overturned and split open on I-395 in Connecticut.

The incident occurred in Griswold at 2:30 p.m., and it seems the truck's driver "failed to move left for the construction pattern" and hit a Department of Transportation truck. Both drivers had minor injuries.

An environmental contractor was called to the scene to clean up the champagne. The Day also has an amazing photograph of the carnage—those orange boxes make us think this was Veuve Clicquot!

Pour one out for champagne tractor-trailer, which joins scotch whisky tanker and beer tractor-trailer in that boozy wasted party hole in the sky.
