Tikka Indian Grill was an excellent addition to the neighborhood when it opened in Williamsburg last year, which hopefully means the owner's new spot in upper Manhattan is destined to be the same. Salim Rahman, who currently co-owns Tikka, and Amin Ruhel, previously of Tripti and Dipali, will run Mumbai Masala Indian Grill, which officially opens Thursday evening on Amsterdam between 147th and 148th. Once again, a Bangladeshi chef will be running the kitchen.

The dishes emerging from Chef Fatema Khatum's kitchen include a wide range of offerings from across the many regions of India, with plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan diners. There's soft and savory Malai Kofta ($10.95), fiery vindaloos in chicken ($12.95) and lamb ($13.95) varieties, and Jhinga Moilee ($15.95), shrimp in a turmeric-infused coconut milk sauce. Like its Brooklyn sister, Mumbai Masala keeps the decor simple with similar street scenes photography. For now, the restaurant is BYOB but a license is currently in the works.
