Chef Amanda Cohen's tiny vegetable-driven restaurant Dirt Candy will close at the end of August...before reopening in a (larger) space on the Lower East Side! How refreshing to write about a restaurant closing without the usual doom and gloom and rent hike ranting!

The restaurant announced on its blog that Saturday, August 30th would be the final day to make a reservation before the 10-seat eatery closes the chapter on six years on East 9th Street. Cohen and crew promise the same incredible vegetarian and vegan fare that enraptured diners to begin with, but you won't be able to "sit next to the bathroom door and get bumped into by waiters while the people at the next table listen to every word you say" at the new spot. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

The Big Dirt Candy will open at 86 Allen Street at some point later this year with more space to dive into broccoli hot dogs.
