Cult noodle shop Xi'an Famous Foods has made a serious splash in the city since opening in Flushing's Golden Mall in 2005, having expanded to outposts in Greenpoint, Chinatown, Midtown, and the Upper East and West Sides. And their East Village location is about to get cozy with the restaurant's sister eatery Biang!, which will be opening inside the Second Avenue space that housed Wylie Dufresne's Alder until it closed earlier this year.

EV Grieve reports that Biang! owner Jason Wang will appear before Community Board 3's SLA committee this month to plead his case for a beer and wine license for the 32-seat restaurant. Before closing in mid-November, the Flushing outpost offered beer, wine and soju to complement the restaurant's platters of seared noodles, meat skewers and spicy & sour dumplings. The CB3 committee will decide next Monday whether to recommend a license to the larger board, which in turn will submit their decision (which is purely advisory) to the SLA.
