While everyone's scrambling to grab a turkey for next week's poultry ritual, the fine folks at the Pine Box Rock Shop are once again hosting the Vegan Shop-Up at their Grattan Street digs in Bushwick on Saturday. Tasty doughnuts like the ones above will be on hand from Cake Thieves, plus vegan hot dogs from Yeah Dawg, sandwiches from Monks Meats and lots of cruelty-free snacks, spreads and even non-food products too. PBRS has a ridiculous Bloody Mary selection, too, plus lots of tasty beers.
Fresh off their Roberta's run, Humboldt & Jackson are getting liquored up this Saturday evening with a Whiskey Pairing Dinner with their pals at the Whiskey Shop. The five course meal includes glasses of unique whiskey spirits like corn and barley paired with grub from the H&J kitchen, including Glazed Pork Belly and Baked Corn Custard. The dinner goes for $65 including service; tickets available here.

Newly-opened Greenpoint Brazilian eatery Cozinha Latina knows the Brooklyn set loves their brunch, so they're debuting their new menu this weekend to meet the demand for eggs-on-everything. Chef Shanna Pacifico will be cooking up Porky Black Beans & Fried Eggs ($14) with spicy piri piri sauce; Bacon, Egg & Cheese Pastels ($12); and a X-Tude Grassfed Cheeseburger ($17) topped with surryano ham, a fried egg, bacon and beef fat aioli. On the sweet side, look for the seasonal Spiced Pumpkin Pancakes ($13) with dulce de leche and passion fruit and a Max's Morning Coffee ($10), a brunch cocktail made with cachaca, espresso, condensed milk, honey and mint.
It still feels a bit like spring outside but nevertheless, it's officially the season for comforting crocks of stews, soups and, of course, chili. This Sunday, the Brooklyn Chili Takedown will service that last category with an amateur chili cook-off from noon to 2 p.m. at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club. Twenty-five to 30 home cooks will be trying to build the most comforting bowl of beans-and-meat, hoping to win over the crowd with their chili creations. A $20 ticket gains you entrance to the event with tastings of all the chilis on hand.
