The 14th Annual Vendy Awards, the longest-running street food competition, returns to
Governors Island this year on September 22. The Vendys celebrates 25 of NYC’s best food vendors all selected by the public. The Vendys’ modest beginnings took place in 2005 in an East Village garage; today, the nation’s first street food event turns out over 2,000 New Yorkers to judge the grill-to-grill cook-off.
Vendors battle it out across different categories where the public and a panel of celebrity judges will select the winners: Best Dessert, Best Market, Best Rookie, Vendy Cup and a surprise category that will be announced for 2018.
General admission tickets allows unlimited sampling from all 25 vendors along with unlimited beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery and wine from Santa Cristina Wines. VIP access gives you early entry at 11:30am where you can get an extra hour to eat, plus access to our VIP bar and tent. Every ticket purchased between now and 8/31 will earn you a chance to be selected as the Citizen Judge where you can join the celebrity judge panel in choosing the winner of The Vendy Cup . Past judges have included Eddie Huang, Aaron Sanchez, Pat LaFrieda and Jacques Torres.
The Vendy Awards are an annual event to benefit the Street Vendor Project at the Urban
Justice Center , a non-profit organization that provides advocacy and legal services for nearly 2,000 street vendor members and to defend vendors' rights and expand their opportunity to make an honest living.
