It was the Oscars of Drink Making on Saturday night, as 11th annual Spirited Awards took place in New Orleans. Part of the cocktail industry's "Tales of the Cocktail" festival—where all your favorite bartenders and cocktail devotees were getting wild this weekend—the awards honor the world's best in shaking and stirring. NYC dominated the American categories, with area cocktail dens and restaurants bringing home four crystal plates.
What a ride! Dante, Best American Restaurant Bar 2017 💥 We've been on an incredible journey together. We are so grateful to our Dante family; the huge number of regulars and supporters who have been with us since opening our doors and to everyone who helped us make this dream a reality. We love you!! Time to party! 🥇🎖🎉
The NoMad Bar—not to be confused with The Elephant Bar at The NoMad—walked away with Best American Bar Team. (Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until August 1st to enjoy their fancy large-format cocktails, as the space is closed for maintenance in July.)
PDT is no stranger to the Spirited Awards, having been named World's Best Cocktail Bar in 2009. Jeff Bell, who's been at the East Village speakeasy since 2010, was named American Bartender of the Year for 2017.
Last night BlackTail won the Best New American Bar award at @tales_of_the_cocktail. It’s a huge accolade for us - the first time a Cuban-themed bar has won the award (or even been shortlisted). We’d like to thank all our staff - each one of you has helped make this possible - and every guest who’s visited. And we’d especially like to thank the people of Cuba for their kindness and unfailing inspiration. Muchas gracias a todos.
Be sure to check out the complete list of winners, including a number of bars that are (for whatever reason) not in NYC.
