Thursday, October 14 -- A Taste for Democracy
This one's tonight, folks! The Taste of Democracy is organized by Citizen Action of New York’s Volunteer2004.org campaign. At the event, volunteers will be able to sign up for phone banks calling voters in the battleground states from New York City and for traveling by bus or car to door-knock in the swing states to get out the vote. Participating restaurants include: Cowgirl Hall of Fame, Daphne’s Caribbean Express, Mara’s Homemade, Sandwich Planet, and Waikiki Wally’s. Tickets are $100 in advance and $110 at the door, and can be reserved by contacting Janice Sanford at 212-523-0180 X 21 or at jsanford@citizenactionny.org. 101 Avenue of the Americas, the auditorium of SEIU 32BJ from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
Saturday, October 16 -- Beer on the Pier
This event, touted by the organizers as the worlds' larges waterfront Beer Garden, will feature over 200 brews. A Portion of the proceeds will benefit The Friends of Gateway National Parks. Tickets, which are $35 and include a souvenir cup and "all beer all day" can be purchased online. Hudson River Park's Pier 54 (just south of 14th Street), 1:00 to 9:00 PM.
Monday, October 18th -- Brooklyn Eats Tasting Event
The 8th annual Brooklyn Eats highlights some of Brooklyn's best food and beverages, and features over 60 restaurants, breweries, caterers, and gourmet grocers, including Alma, Blue Ribbon, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, and Junior's. Tickets are $60 in advance and $85 at the door and can be purchased through TicketWeb or by calling 866-468-7619. New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Sunday, October 17 through Sunday, October 24 -- The Brooklyn Dodge Restaurant Week
5% of your bill at participating Brooklyn restaurants go towards legal fees to support Develop Don’t Destroy and the community in the fight for a democratic process in the future development of Brooklyn neighborhoods, and against Bruce Ratner’s Nets arena and development proposal.
