Did someone say lobster? Yes, and we'll say it again on repeat because summer is the season for lobster rolls, lobster boils and lobster boats. On May 17th, we'll have yet another floating vessel on which to imbibe beer and tuck into seafood feasts of all kinds when North River Lobster Company debuts at Pier 81.
A boat designed to "resemble a New England lobster shack" will be parked at the dock serving up seafood dishes like Clam Chowder ($6), PEI Mussels ($14), Fish Tacos ($14) and Lobster Rolls ($18). They'll also be doing 1 1/4 pound steamed Maine Lobsters ($29) served with coleslaw and salt potatoes and a full raw bar with a daily selection of oysters, clams, crab, shrimp and other chilled fare.
They've got you covered on the booze too, with Mason Jar cocktails ($12) like High Tide (peach and citrus vodkas with tea, agave and lemon) and a Nautical Margarita (it's got blue cuacao in it, get it?). Beers are available by the bottle or the bucket, including five beers for $24 from their brews normally going for $6 each. Wine comes with fruit, vodka and triple sec (sangria, $9/$34) or unadorned between $7 - $10 for a glass.
Even more important than the grub are the views from the open-air top deck, which looks out on the water and then back onto Manhattan when the boat takes one of its daily, informal cruises. The boat takes mini-45 minutes jaunts from the pier four times a day with no tickets required. Guests can sit and sip while the boat goes in and out of the dock as many times as they please. This might just be the best lobster and a cruise deal in town.
