There's a swine-centric menu coming to Chef Michael Psilakis’ The Hall Brooklyn, his hybrid venue and supper experience in Williamsburg. Beginning today, the venue begins a series of Brooklyn Pig Roast Dinners on Fridays through May 27th (skipping May 20th), in addition to Saturday, May 28th. Choose between Korean Bo Ssam-style or Southern BBQ-style pork ($40), served with kimchi and bacon fried rice, grits and collards. Other than the big platters, there'll be BBQ Pulled Pork Hamburgers, Bo Ssam Sliders and Shrimp & Grits and the option to add a Belgian beer or whiskey pairing.
This Sunday, East Village charmer The Redhead begins three weekends of mudbug madness as part of their Ninth Annual Crawfish Boil. Starting at noon and running 'til the final tail has been consumed, the restaurant is offering two pounds of crawfish plus trimmings like Andouille sausage, corn, potatoes and artichokes for $35. They also have Abita on tap for the fully immersive Louisiana experience.
Saturday and Sunday are opening days for the Red Hook Food Vendors, who'll be setting up at the Recreation Fields at 160 Bay Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pupusas from El Olomega, huaraches from Country Boys, tacos from Piaxtlan, Arepas from the Colombian food truck and aguas frescas from the Vaqueros truck will all return this season, plus one other vendor that you'll have to show up to discover.
It's also opening day for Vendy Plaza on Sunday, the Street Vendor Project-backed market that returns for its second year underneath the Metro-North tracks at 116th and Park Avenue. There'll be 10 vendors for opening weekend, many of whom are new businesses; the lineup includes Blonde Bakes, Elsie's Jerk Shack, Maruka and Wang's Crazy Potato, among others. Also on-site: a Brooklyn Brewery beer garden and live music.
