fw200506_lemonminttea.jpgWe used to think lemonade was the best drink for cooling off in the summertime. Our grandmother swore by barley water. But on a recent humid day a friend mixed passionfruit puree with strawberry puree, threw in a bit of ice and water, and there it was! The most refreshing drink we've ever had. We tried to stop at three glasses; it didn't work. We managed to stretch out the fourth, and we've been thinking about it ever since.

We've found some other summer refreshers around the city that we love -- the aqua frescas at Pampano Tacqueria (we're partial to the watermelon, when they have it), and the herbal teas at the Union Square greenmarket. If you're inclined to make your own, Food and Wine has a slideshow with 23 recipes and tantalizing pictures.
