Finally, East Village transplants to Williamsburg can get food delivered to their door just like Mama's used to make. Well, like Mama's Food Shop still makes. The popular Alphabet City homecooking joint has just opened an outpost South 4th Street and delivery starts tonight (delivery map here)! Fried chicken with brussels sprouts and a side of apple cobbler, anyone?
The menu (below) of the new Mama's is pretty much the same as the old Mama's. So think hefty portions of "basics" like roasted chicken, bacon-wrapped meatloaf, pan-seared tilapia (man, we miss their salmon...) and many, many delicious sides like broccoli with garlic, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and roasted root veggies. You can get one basic with one side for $12.50 (plus another side for $1) or a "veggie plate" of three sides for $11.50. And if you are anything like us one night's order will keep you in food through lunch the next day. And for you brunchers, with the new restaurant both Mama's have expanded the restaurant's brunch menu, so it now includes items like waffles and baked French toast (both $6).
As for the newcomer's looks? The new Mama's is a slightly classier joint than its forebear, with pretty lighting, nice wood tables and photos of the mothers of employees and neighbors on the walls. But don't worry, they still make you bus your own tables.
Oh, the one huge difference between the two Mama's? Booze. Starting next month the Williamsburg location will be selling beer, wine, mimosas and Micheladas for between $3-$6.
