Third generation piazzaiolo Michele Iuliano has been slinging his pies from his multiple restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn but now he's taking his operation mobile, launching an adorable pizza cart for pies on the go. The custom cart features all the necessary accoutrements for creating his Neopolitan-style pies, including a dainty little wood-burning oven that cooks each pie in 45 seconds flat. Luzzo's Pizza Cart will be firing up just two kinds of pies, a traditional Margherita ($7) and a Pizza Diavola ($8) topped with spicy salami.
Another quirk of the cart is its beverage options, which include Illy Espresso in single, double and macchiato iterations. Italians love their espresso, no doubt; think of it as a way to get amped up again following pizza coma on your lunch break. The cart also sells sodas ($3), including the San Pellegrino Aranciata and Limonata flavors.
For its debut outing tomorrow evening you can find Luzzo's parked on 27th between 10th and 11th Avenues beginning at 4 p.m. for a little free after work "aperitivo," they tell us. After that, follow the cart on Twitter for daily updates on their lunch and dinnertime locations.
