New Yorkers really love their private green space. How else to explain the return of the Lower East Side Timeshare Backyard? Because yeah, baby, after completely selling out in 2011 the Participation Agency is bringing back the very "only in New York" idea of renting a backyard by the hour.
To refresh, here is the pitch: For $100 per hour, two hours minimum, you and up to 30 friends at a time can enjoy a nice patch of grass in the middle of the city. Also, "BBQ grill, picnic benches, loungers, sun umbrellas, coolers, and a bathroom on site." As well as, "trashy mags, hammocks, squirt guns, hula hoops and street art." The space, at 145 Ludlow Street between Orchard and Rivington, is available through August 26th. And it's BYOB.
Those prices—which we'll note are double what they were charging last year—are for weekends only. Weekday rates appear to be negotiable, but you need to e-mail. If you are interested, you probably want to book sooner rather than later. They only just opened reservations and spaces are going quick.
