There's mom and pop and then there's mother and daughter, which is the scene at Bushwick's latest restaurant Le Garage, a French-accented eatery that opened up on Central Avenue a few days ago. Catherine and Rachel Allswang are cooking up homey French dishes like roasted chicken and moules marinieres in their sun-dappled spot with its bright yellow accent wall and simple, post-industrial decor. The spot's hard to miss from the outside: just look for the spray painted garage doors rimmed in canary.
The French-born duo are dividing up front and back of house operations, with mom lending her years of restaurant kitchen experience to the food while daughter handles service and design. Many of the dishes are familiar with tweaks and twists from the duo's experiences abroad, like radishes accented by sesame salt ($5), mussels "their way" ($9/14) and confit charlotte potatoes stuffed with snails ($13).
Cocktails run a market-rate $9-12 and focus on French aperitifs with a tight wine list by the glass ($8-11) or bottle ($30-68).
