Jay-Z's 40/40 club is heading back to court and this time the nightspot is the one doing the suing. According to Page Six Mr. Beyonce's club is suing former chef Mike Shand for a cool $1.5 million for failing "to perform on significant aspects" of a deal to beef up the joint's food. Yup, $1.5 million.

Exactly what Shand did and didn't do isn't quite clear, but the suit seems to imply that because the former personal chef didn't do something he was supposed to do, "Jay-Z and partner Juan Perez were unable to deliver promised offerings, 'costing the club lost profits, loss of good will [and] alienation of clientele.'" The suit reportedly goes on to say that "The club has not been able to adequately replace the items and services defendant was paid to provide." They couldn't find a new chef? Did he steal the stove? Or perhaps this has something to do with the bad health inspections the restaurant got when it reopened?

The suit also raises a serious question: Does any chef whose name doesn't start with Mario and end with Batali even have $1.5 million in the bank? While you ponder that, Shand's lawyer is waiting to see the actual suit: "Mike’s a great chef, and it is unclear why 40/40 would contemplate a lawsuit against him. Nevertheless, we will respond accordingly when he gets served with the complaint."
