The salsa-makers turned breakfast taco hawkers at Jalapa Jar debut their second NYC taco shop on Tuesday in Downtown Brooklyn, joining their first location inside the subway station at Clark Street. Tommy Byrnes and his merry band of queso-makers will pop-up at the site of the forthcoming 80 Flatbush from now until 2019 when the building construction is said to begin.
The breakfast taco lineup remains the same, with options like bacon or chorizo, spinach or avocado. They'll be joined by a new vegan tofu scramble plus non-breakfast taco fillings including shrimp, pastrami and sauteed kale with roasted cauliflower.
Jalapa Jar's salsa lineup can be found under the Texi Dips & Chips section of the menu, which also includes things like queso, guacamole and bean dips. This new location will also feature a small market ("Jalapa Mart") of pantry items made by other local NYC brands including sauces, marinades, spreads and snacks.
Byrnes tells Gothamist to expect some tortilla innovations at the new spot, where they'll be making corn masa tortillas from scratch on the weekends in conjunction with a new brunch menu. As a hint, there may be some Mexican/Italian crossover-type of a dish happening; stop by weekends to see what that entails.
384 Schermerhorn Street; jalapajar.com. Open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
