Pig Beach, purveyors of BBQ in Gowanus, expand their reach into Manhattan today with the opening of Pig Bleecker, their spinoff on...Bleecker Street. Chef Matt Abdoo, who was at Del Posto before turning to the smoker, doubles down on the smoke factor at the new restaurant but has broadened his horizons beyond barbecued meats.
The brand here is "smoked-centric comfort food." To Abdoo that looks to mean things like meatballs, burgers and brisket ravioli, proof he's not straying too far from the Pig brand's roots. Big ticket items include a Smoked Hot Fried Whole Bell Rouge Chicken served with cheese grits and honey, a Tomahawk Chop with smoked beef rib, greens and smashed potatoes, and a Red Waddle Pork Chop with habanero jam.
Sarah Morrisey, a Dutch Kills alum, created the cocktail program, which includes a large format punch served out of a vintage punch bowl. The Little Pina’s Pisco Punch uses a coconut tea-infused pisco combined with dehydrated coconut milk, cinnamon, pineapple and lemon.
