Two new Italian eateries are opening in a space inside Macy's Flagship Herald Square store next Monday, serving pizza and pastas in one and gelatti and sorbeti in the other. Though accessible from inside the store on the sixth floor, a dedicated elevator on 35th Street brings guests directly the restaurants, which will both stay open past Macy's store hours. In addition to tasty Italian fare, views that were previously unavailable to the public show diners the Empire State Building and Herald Square below.

Stella 34 Trattoria will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week, including Neapolitan-style pizzas made with imported Caputo flour and baked in wood burning ovens. Al forno entrees like Tortino di Melanzane ($17), an eggplant dish, and a béchamel Lasagna ($20) will also be baked in the ovens; a variety of pasta, fish and meat entrees are also available. Traditional Italian appetizers—Piccoli Piatti—like Arancini ($6), marinated olives ($5) and baby octopus ($9) are designed for sharing between the table. Come lunchtime, oven-baked sandwiches ($15) stuffed with veal meatballs, chicken Milanese and other meats are added to the menu.

Located just inside Stella 34 is Vivoli Il Gelato, a third-generation Florentine gelato shop that specializes in frozen treats without additives or flavorings. The gelateria, opening for the first time outside of Italy, will offer a rotating selection of nine gelati and three sorbetti, with flavors like Stracciatella (chocolate chip), Crema all'Arancia (creme with bitter orange zest) and Pera (baked Bosc pear) sorbeti. Cups of the creamy stuff—no cones!—can be enjoyed inside the store or taken home in pints and quarts.
