We've been following the story of Canz, the Long Island-based boobs-and-sports bar that's been poaching Hooters girls, with some curiosity for a while now. The latest curve in this strange trip involves the brand-new, CC Sabathia-blessed Murray Hill location, which opened last week with plenty of booze but apparently without a liquor license.
DNAinfo reports that the opening-night party was interrupted by SLA officials, who say that Canz's owners never applied for a liquor license before offering happy-hour specials and bargain-bin pitchers.
The manager we spoke to this afternoon refused to go into detail, but did encourage us to "come over for a drink and check the space out." Like...an alcoholic drink? "Yes, any drink, we're open for business" she said.
Last week, Canz co-founder told the Post that the Murray Hill location was "kept a secret" because "we wanted this to be a surprise to the neighborhood." But surprising the SLA? Maybe not the smartest way to attract attention, broheims.
