It may have once been prison food but these days, lobster is the king of the crustaceans, with folks willing to shell out big bucks for its sweet meat. If you count yourself among them, you'll want to make a note of two upcoming lobster-centric food fests that put the lobster glut in gluttony...or something.

First up, loosen your belts for Lobster de Mayo, an all-star chef lobsterpalooza featuring four hours of haute lobster preparations from some of the big names in NYC dining. Empellon, Marea, ABC Kitchen, Gramercy Tavern, Marc Forgione and others are tasked with creating spectacular crustacean creations for lobster lovers with deep pockets. Tickets prices are steep, with General Admission going for $296 and VIP for $450 (perks include a special lounge with a raw bar and "food runner," among other things); but proceeds and silent auction money goes to City Harvest, so at least your tax refund is being blown For A Good Cause. Oh, and there's booze. The event takes over the swanky Capitale space on the Bowery on Saturday, May 10th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you're not prepared or able to drop three hundred seashells for one event, consider Tasting Table's Lobster Rumble, where the clawed catch takes its most notable form: the roll. Twenty-three restaurants offer their take on the classic sandwich, including fine dining spots like Betony, The Clam and Ditch Plains plus perennial favorites Luke's Lobster and Mermaid Inn and contenders from Maine and points north. GA tickets are "just" $179.65 (VIP $288.50) and includes all 23 lobster stations, Cape Cod potato chips, a "Haagen-Dazs Dessert Deck" and an open bar with cocktails, wine and beer.
