And here we have The Pines, the new venture from the folks behind the dainty New England-style clam shack Littleneck, located in Gowanus. Isn't she just darling? Located just down the street from its sister establishment, The Pines focuses on house-made pastas, house-cured meats, and seasonal salads. The chef is Angelo Romano, formerly of Roberta's and the snooty (shuttered) Masten Lake, a man who's not afraid to put a $31 entree on the menu in Gowanus.

The aesthetic theme, as you can see here, is reclaimed EVERYTHING, with distressed tin on the walls and ceilings, church pews presumably rescued from some 19th century chapel in Oregon, and dried flowers hanging from the ceiling. The Pines' most enticing aspect from our point of view (at least until the season changes completely) is the quaint backyard that seems a world away from the Gowanus Canal. It's open nightly, except for Tuesdays, and cash only. Check out the menu here.
