The third location of super popular chicken & waffles spot Sweet Chick debuts Monday, July 31st and Gothamist got a first look inside the nearly completed space before it officially opens. None of the shabby chic elements that have defined the restaurants other locations have been put up yet; the sole design feature in place is a neon sign bearing a quote from Biggie's "Juicy."
John Seymour, who co-owns the three NYC locations and one L.A. outpost of Sweet Chick with rapper Nas, called the new space "really dope" during a Brooklyn Community Board 8 committee last December, when DNAinfo reported the opening. "I just really want it to be a neighborhood spot," he went on to say.
Reps for the restaurant say the menu for this location will be the same "for now" as its siblings. The many versions of fried chicken remain the big drawn, especially the Fried Chicken and Waffles dish with a choice of different waffle flavors like bacon-cheddar and dried cherry. Gothamist has previously endorsed the Shrimp and Grits, and this blogger can confirm that their Mac and Cheese is quite excellent, too.
Waits for the Williamsburg original continue to be insane pretty much every night of the week; expect the same here, especially when there's something going on at the nearby Barclays Center.
