We regret to inform you that legendary East 60th Street dive bar Subway Inn will close next month. The following message was posted to the bar's Facebook page this morning:

Subway Inn Patrons,
As you might know, Subway Inn was established in 1937, and has been proudly serving customers since.
We are sad to inform you that Subway Inn will be closed for business on or about the 15th of August. That's not to say we aren't opening another location. Subway Inn WILL be relocate.

There were rumors earlier this year that World-Wide Group's acquisition of several buildings on the block signaled the end of the bar, which has been operating since 1937. At the time, an employee told us the bar would "probably going to end up moving somewhere else pretty close in the area," which looks to be what will happen now.

We're reaching out to get more information about their possible new location and what will happen to the iconic neon signage; we'll update if we hear back.
