Back in June, we were teased with reports that a Golden Girls-themed cafe was set to open in Washington Heights in September. It's September 10th, and I still haven't eaten cheesecake in a room full of Rose/Blanche/Dorothy/Sophia memorabilia. On the bright side, though, the cafe did post a little teaser. SOON.

Michael LaRue, whose best friend, the late Rue McClanahan, played Blanche Devereaux on the show, plans to open the Rue La Rue Café at 4396 Broadway in the coming weeks. No opening date's been announced, but this week he posted a photo of a cup embossed with Blanche's image on the cafe's Facebook page:

According to the post, "there is still work to be done" on the space, but they did install a gold mica chip and glitter floor, so there's that to look forward to. LaRue inherited McClanahan's personal belongings and show business memorabilia after she died in 2010, and plans to decorate the space using some of her stuff. The cafe plans to serve dishes from the show, like "flugel kaka" and character Rose's "Looks Like Chocolate, Tastes Like Spice, You'll Wish You Had a Bigger Slice Marble Cake," along with soups, wraps, wine, and, of course, cheesecake.
