There's more than just cool movies to look forward to at Bryant Park's HBO Summer Film Series this year. Hester Street Fair has lined up a rotating group of vendors to set up shop at the popular outdoor film screenings, selling snacks and confections to nosh on during the show. Though we're fond of packing our own picnic—better to hide adult beverages—this is a great option for a last-minute decision to catch a screening under the stars.
Though the exact list will change week-to-week, expect vendors like Oaxaca Taqueria, Minnie's Bake Shop, Arancini Bros and Ludlow Pizza. Kobayashi's Kobi Dog and wichcraft burgers serve up traditional picnic fare while Two Teaspoons brings along eats for the veggie set. Artistic Taste, a catering company by Todd English Food Hall Chef André, brings a new menu of elegant dishes each week, including macaroni and cheese with black summer truffles, crab cakes and Kobe beef empanadas.
Vendors begin selling at 4 p.m. so you can arrive early to dine and then repair to the lawn when it opens at 5 p.m. This coming Monday the park screens the 1964 thriller Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, starring screen legends Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland. Upcoming films include The African Queen, Norma Rae and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. BYO Reese's Pieces.
