After four years attempting to foist faux tapas and fusion tacos on lazy tourists, the Union Square TGI Fridays will close. The two-story building that houses the restaurant will be put on the market, reports Commercial Observer; Fridays license holder The Riese Organization will shutter the struggling location in advance. "I've opened and closed many through the years," explained CEO Dennis Riese said. "Now I have eight open."

For his part, Riese seems to understand where Fridays fits in the pecking order. "In some parts of town it doesn’t compete as well," he explained. "Union Square is so hot down there these days with real quality restaurants it just doesn’t compete well." Riese hasn't given up on bringing Fridays to other parts of the city. Next on his radar: Murray Hill. "It’s a very young area," he said. "To that crowd Fridays is still relevant." Good luck, you crazy kids! Sounds like a match made in Mozzarella Stick Heaven.
