juliaclogo.jpegAs you can tell from today's Google Doodle, and yesterday's autotune remix, today would have been the 100th birthday of cooking legend Julia Child. Restaurants and chefs have joined together and created JC100 (they're even on Twitter) to create special menus and events in celebration of Julia’s life and legacy. One such restaurant is Alison Eighteen (15 West 18th Street between 5th and 6th) which has crafted a special lunch and dinner menu inspired by Julia Child, available through tomorrow. Owner Alison Price Becker actually served Julia Child at her former establishment, Dominick. View the menu here.

Tonight at PowerHouse (37 Main Street in DUMBO) they'll also be celebrating, with their Julia At 100 event (7 to 9 p.m.). "Join chefs and food writers as they share five-minute tales commemorating Julia Child on her 100th birthday. Featuring trivia, a bake-off, prizes, drinks, and, of course, plenty of baked treats courtesy of One Girl Cookies and Baked." And by "drinks" they mean "French wine," naturally. RSVP at

There's another big event coming September, with the Consul General of France. On September 12th (6:30 p.m.) you're invited to "celebrate the life of Grande Dame Julia Child, on the occasion of her 100th anniversary of her birth." The reception will include a menu inspired by Julia from Diane Gordon Catering, as well as a commemorative cake by "NYC's Cake Lady" Sylvia Weinstock. Also: gift bags!
