Two women were busted yesterday for allegedly robbing an ice cream truck in Greenpoint, a bold-faced attack on one of America's most sacred institutions.

Kayla Campbell and Lisa Quimpo reportedly sneaked into the unattended truck in a Greenpoint parking lot at about 7:45 p.m. on August 18th, which means they weren't even operating under the cover of darkness. They took a case of ice cream and "destroyed" (read: ATE, probably) several other frozen desserts. The big question here, though, is: Who leaves an ice cream truck unattended? We're surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.

The sweet-toothed criminals were busted when the son of the truck's owner recognized the women from the truck's surveillance video, which could imply that Campbell and Quimpo were regular customers...anyhow...just saying. Both women were charged with petit larceny and criminal mischief. Quimpo was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 3, and Campbell is awaiting arraignment. We'll leave it to Tom Waits to summarize the feelings of the ice cream man who was wronged.
