Grand Central Terminal's flexible Vanderbilt Hall has been transformed many times into a concert venue, a squash court, a cheesy art gallery and even a life-size dollhouse. Starting next Monday, it will take on new life as a temporary indoor picnic space, complete with Astroturf, decked out picnic tables and edible supplies befitting a relaxing afternoon on the lawn.

The indoor oasis, dubbed Life's A Picnic In Grand Central, opens every day at 7 a.m. beginning August 18th through August 22nd, with a daily selection of the Terminal's excellent food vendors operating from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Snag lunch from Cafe Spice, Ceriello Fine Foods or Murray's Cheese, or opt for a snack from one of the local bakeries like Zaro's or Magnolia. Snag a seat at a gingham-topped picnic table and munch away (you can also BYO eats) or take advantage of the Terminal's free Wi-Fi and Instagram to your heart's content.

Also on tap, some daily entertainment, from pop violin to the Big Apple Circus to casts from Broadway musicals including Chicago, Pippin and Motown The Musical. There are both midday shows from around noon until 2 p.m., as well as evening shows that last from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. when the picnic space shuts down. Get in on these pop-up events while you can before Vanderbilt Hall becomes just another fancy food hall.
