Governors Island will open this weekend on May 24th, with seven appealing new food offerings.
This season the island will be showing off the first 30 acres of its $260 million, 100-acre transformation, and for the first time, food trucks and tents will be assembled in Kings Avenue. According to a press release, here are the vendors:
Sweet Chili's pork belly with cilantro
The brainchild of Top Chef finalist Lisa Fernades serves gourmet Thai and Vietnamese fusion. Signature dishes include the miso glazed silken tofu and green papaya salad.
Mayhem & Stout
The award-winning truck offers great tasting sandwiches with braised meats like the pulled pork sandwich with black cherry mustard and roasted kale and is known for their tasty sides and innovative sauces.
The iconic NYC brand serving Yankee Stadium for 9 years offers authentic Philly cheesesteaks, plus chicken steaks and vegetarian sandwiches.
Mike N' Willies
Mexican BBQ fusion fare focusing on tacos, sliders and more with delectable homemade sauces.
DiSO’S Italian Sandwich Society
Famed food truck offering fresh sandwiches made with fine, imported Italian meats and cheeses sourced from the famous DiPalos in Little Italy.
El Paso Taco
The mobile counterpart to the popular UES restaurant specializes in traditional tacos with inventive twists like the short rib taco braised in Negra Modelo beer served with watermelon pico de gallo.
Momos & Buns
Known for their hand rolled Tibetan dumplings and authentic baos like the BBQ beef brisket with sriracha mayo and gojuchang tofu with homemade kimchi.
The operation will be run by the Live Fast Group, whose CEO Ben Goldberg said, "We are thrilled to be part of the next chapter of Governors Island. They are now able to accommodate the varied palates of their growing number of visitors. We aim to provide a stellar culinary experience as guests take in the amazing views of this historic and iconic island."
The food options will be available Saturdays and Sundays through September 28th, plus Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. And there's now a @govislandfood Twitter.
