Brooklyn-born Colin Quinn will be one of the judges at this year's Vendy Awards, the annual event that spotlights the best street food vendors in NYC. The former Saturday Night Live cast member joins an all-star lineup of judges that includes CNN’s Kat Kinsman, New York Times columnist John T. Edge, and street food enthusiast Zenia Muna as the "citizen judge."
The awards support the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center. The Street Vendor Project works with its 1,100 vendor members, educating them about their legal rights and responsibilities and raise public awareness about their contributions to the city amongst other things. As previously noted, the Vendys will be introducing the "Most Heroic Vendor" award, which director Helena Tubis says could go to anyone from the guy who called the cops on the Times Square bomber to the one who remembers your complicated coffee order every morning.
For the second year in a row, the Vendy's will take place on Governor's Island. There will be an abundance of food trucks serving up their best grub, and tickets are on sale now! If you're still on the fence, here are some mouthwatering photos from last year's awards. And here's Quinn on the topic of Korean delis in New York City:
