Not to be outdone by their rivals across the river, the Hester Street Fair is throwing a big Ice Cream Social on Saturday at their Seward Park Digs to beat this weekend's searing heat. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., swing by to pick up ice cream sandwiches from Melt Bakery, whimsical flavors by Ice & Vice, refreshing paletas from La Newyorkina and boozed-up cream from Tipsy Scoop. Oh, and did we mention the fried ice cream?
If a #SummerFriday getaway upstate isn't in the cards, you're still in luck, because you'll get to eat like you're there at the Catskills Comes to Queens event this Saturday at the Flushing Town Hall. The New York Epicurean Events team has gathered chefs from parts north as well as closer to home for a "farm-to-festival" tasting event to celebrate the relationship between upstate farmers and the chefs both near and far who employ their delicious produce, from fruits and vegetables to heritage breed animals. There will be over 20 chefs on hand; tickets for the event run $95 for unlimited bites and glasses of wine with a special buy three, get one free offer also in place.

Excellent new Gowanus brewpub Threes Brewing concludes two weekends of welcoming the Roberta's crew for Sancho's Backdoor, a Tex-Mex[ican]/Pizza pop-up to accompany the brewery's selection. Through August 2nd, tuck into Enchiladas ($12) and Chile Relleno ($12) or the pizzeria's famed Pizza Bee Sting ($16) pie with sopressata and honey. But the crown jewel for molten cheese seekers: their Queso ($7), specially Pedro's Dirty Queso ($10) fortified with black beens, avocado, pico and jalapenos.
Elsewhere in Brooklyn, The Woods and its backyard outpost of Landhaus are beginning Cookout In The Woods, a monthlong Sunday evening party sticking around for August. Each week, the team is cooking up a whole animal and offering plates for $10 a pop. This week's offering is pig, and breaks down Hampshire Pork into Prime Rib Chops with a Rhubarb Mostarda Glaze for gnawing. Goat, crab, duck and cow are coming up in the following weeks. The festivities take place between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and also include tiki cocktails and classic daquiris by The Noble Experiment and $3 Brooklyn Brewery Summer Ales.
