To celebrate 60 years on Second Avenue, East Village institution Veselka will be throwing a big party this evening complete with free food, booze and a dedicated pierogi bar. Tonight from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., the restaurant will be flinging open its doors to serve hors d'oeuvres-style eats of some of its classic dishes, including potato pancakes and Ukranian meatballs, according to DNAinfo. There'll also be two bars pouring red and white wines plus Ukranian draft beers, the perfect facilitator to the "mirth and mingling" encouraged by the invite.

Also on tap, so to speak, a dedicated Pierogi bar, where they'll be serving up the potato, cheese and veggie dumplings so beloved by visitors at all hours of the day and night. Special seasonal varieties include one filled with short rib and another stuffed with pumpkin.

This is the second birthday bash of sorts they've celebrated this year, with their throwback menu of cheap eats drawing a huge crowd. If you want to get in on tonight's gratis grub, we recommend getting on line, uh, now.
