In much of the world Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent, is also known as Pancake Day (or Shrove Tuesday). But that's the rest of the world. Here in America for some reason we celebrate our Pancake Day the week after. And what better way to celebrate than free pancakes from IHOP?

Yup, the International House of Pancakes is once again very proudly pushing its National Pancake Day promotion to any and every reporter with an e-mail address. But who are we to complain about free food combined with charity? The pitch is simple: For the seventh year the chain's participating restaurants are offering (one) free short stack of pancakes to each dine-in customer who shows up (though presumably somebody has to actually pay for something at your table).

Of course, IHOP would still really like you to pay something for those pancakes—so they're asking guests to donate to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Last year the same promotion raised $2.5 million for children's charities. The giveaway runs from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. And yes, all three NYC locations are playing.

PRO TIP! If you don't like your pancakes drowned in corn syrup, we highly suggest you bring your own syrup...
