Fans of buying booze from fancy food trucks, your days are numbered. Earlier this year the SLA granted liquor licences to the food trucks currently parked where the Tavern on the Green's Crystal Room once stood, but the experiment will not be long lived. Crain's, which has a lock on the Tavern beat, reports that the Parks Department has decided not to renew the trucks leases. Their last day will be October 15.
So what happens to the famous Tavern on the Green once the trucks depart? Nobody knows and the city is staying quiet on it—for now. The mayor's office has been commissioning reports on the space but will only say that there are "no specific plans" for its future.
We seriously doubt that Donald Trump will get his paws on the iconic space. One thing worth noting, however, is that after the city gave the boot to the space's old operator, Jenny LeRoy, it picked the Central Park Boathouse's restaurateur Dean Poll to take over. He eventually gave up on it because he couldn't make things work with the union...but that was before the Boathouse workers went on strike for 44 days, forcing him to come to terms with the New York Hotel Trades Council. Just saying!
