This September the 9th annual Vendy Awards roll into Brooklyn's Industry City to crown the best of the best in mobile vendors. Today, the Street Vendor Project unveiled the first four groups of finalists who will seek the top prize in their category. The finalists were culled from thousands of nominations by regular folks who love their street food, with the final verdict being offered by a panel of foodie judges at the event.

First up, Rookie of the Year, which crowns the best of the newcomers on the mobile food scene. This year's contenders are Malaysian truck Mamak, Indian/Tibetan/Nepali truck Mysttik Masaala, Pizza truck Neopolitan Express, empanada vendor Nuchas, "Thaietnamese" vendor Sweet Chili and Lebanese truck Toum. Gothamist favorites Del's NYC and OddFellows Ice Cream Co. join Carpe Donut NYC, Itizy, Liddabit Sweets, Popitbaby and Cholita Cuencana for the Best Dessert distinction.

Best Market Vendor recognizes "vendors at street fairs and outdoor markets that are re-imagining the sourcing and consumption of traditional street food by utilizing locally sourced ingredients and innovative techniques to create exciting dishes." Bon Chovie, Brooklyn Cured, Lonestar Taco, Khao Man Gai NY, and Porchetta are contenders for this year's honors. Back after a year-long hiatus the Best of New Jersey picks out the best of our mobile friends from across the river, with The French Quarter, Hunger Construction, Molly’s Milk Truck, Home by the Range, and Tony Boloney’s Moustache Mobile all vying for best of the Garden State.

Announcements for the rest of the categories will be made next month, including the coveted Vendy Cup nominees. Tickets are on sale now for the September 7th ceremony and if you buy your ticket before midnight on July 26th you'll be entered to be a citizen judge.
