Is the name "Revel" cursed? Following in the footsteps of the doomed Revel Hotel, fancy Meatpacking District brunch spot Revel has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing serious financial constraints.

The popular boozy brunch spot reportedly owes the state a boatload in unpaid taxes and is anger of getting shut down, according to the Daily News. The restaurant is typically packed and earns a monthly revenue of about $244K, though that's not enough to stay open if you're keeping cash from Uncle Sam.

Revel's still open, but the news casts a shadow over an already-bad week for restaurant closings. Longstanding West Village Greek spot Karavas Place has closed down, as has Fat Sals in Alphabet City.
