Toss another option onto our ever-expanding pile of rooftop bars: Haven, high atop The Sanctuary Hotel on the cusp of Times Square, opened last week with a flourish of trumpets and half-naked dancing angels. As a counterpoint to the grimy urban Twister game below, the 2,500 square foot lounge is a green oasis, with vines crawling up the walls, a wide variety of trees and floral arrangements, and plenty of reclaimed cedar wood furnishings. The cumulative effect is rather peaceful, with Times Square spied through glass walls from a safe vantage point, and cocktails delivered by hot angels on high. (Sadly, the angels only descended for the media preview, in a futile attempt to save the damned souls of food writers.)

Haven will offer a full food menu introduced in the months to come, but for now it's just beverages, which are in the $13-$16 range. (If you think that's steep, try ordering a drink at Salon de Ning atop the Peninsula Hotel, where two cocktails can set you back $50.) Here you face beverage choices such as The Sanctuary Star (ginger liqueur, light rum, fresh lime, mint and sugar), Aura (Bombay Sapphire Gin, fresh muddled raspberries, freshly squeezed lemon, mint leaves and simple syrup), Cielo (Herradura Silver Tequila, Cointreau, Guava Nectar & fresh sour mix) and the Solstice (Veev Acai Spirit, fresh lemon juice, cucumber, basil & simple syrup). Check out the full menu here.
