Noted chefs from Italy and right here in the city are once again joining forces at Eataly for Identita New York, a series of cooking demos and dinners highlighting contemporary Italian cuisine. Alain Ducasse, Michael White and Massimo Bottura are just a few of the big names scheduled to appear at the event, which unfolds over three days beginning Friday, October 12th. Some chefs have yet to announce their menus, but we're told each demonstration will center around a particular ingredient like tomatoes, lamb and caviar. Chefs Anita Lo and Francesco Apreda will prepare two dishes for the early Sunday demo: a salad of heirloom tomatoes with yuba, shiso and ponzu from Lo and a creamy risotto alla puttanesca with mackerel over cedar from Apreda.
As was the case last year, Friday and Saturday's dinners will be served at Eataly's beautiful rooftop bar Birreria, which affords lovely views of the nearby Flatiron building and the Empire State Building. A handful of invited chefs collaborate on the meal, meaning a variety of interpretations of Italian flavors and the opportunity for diners to experience a wide range of techniques and styles. A $200 dinner ticket gets you a five-course feast with wine pairings and gratuity, which is steep, but these chefs are world class. Unfortunately tickets are already sold out to the Mario Batali-Davide Scabin demo Friday afternoon, but $125 tickets, which also include food, wine pairings and gratuity, can still be procured for the other five demonstrations happening over the weekend.
