Remember Dirt Pie, the cookie crumble and gummy worm-strewn dessert of playgrounds past? An East Village dessert bar has created some adult riffs on the childhood classic, constructing both an edible "plant" and a chocolate terrarium that look darn close to the real thing. There aren't any candy creepy crawlies in these versions but they'll definitely satisfy your taste for sweets, nostalgia and beautiful works of food art.

Chef Ian Chalermkittichai's creations at Spot Dessert Bar on St. Marks are exquisite, especially his Chocolate Terrarium ($8.95), with realistic-looking macaron "rocks," clumps of chocolate "dirt" and moist green tea "moss." The Harvest ($8.95) looks like a common houseplant before service, arriving as a sprig of mint "planted" in a terracotta flower plot with cookie crumbs. Once upturned, it's filled with shortcake, seasonal fruit and cream.
