Examine the "Roots Of Southern Cooking" with a Lowcountry Dinner on Wednesday evening at Southern restaurant Root & Bone in the East Village. This third and final installation of the dinner series explores the sea islands of South Carolina with help from The Carolina Housewife Cookbook (1840) and What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking (1881). Dine on shecrab soup, lowcountry boil, hush puppies, Hoppin' john, Chicken Perloo and black berry cobbler for dessert. Reservations $50 per person with a $6 supplement for the restaurant's fried chicken.

Elsewhere in hyper-regional dinners in the East Village, Flinders Lane takes a magnifying glass to the state of Victoria in Australia, exalting its seafood, meat and wine. The four-course menu, available only on Tuesday, includes Australian Abalone Sashimi, Yarra Valley Feta Crostini with a Crispy White Anchovy Fritter, Australian Lamb Rack and Victorian Braised Beef Cheek. Reservations are $60 per person.
