A wine retailer with multiple locations across New Jersey dips into the Downtown Brooklyn market with a two-for-one wine shop and wine bar, now open on Myrtle Avenue near Flatbush. Wine Legend operates its retail component and bar in one space, the latter offering an extensive selection of wines by the glass via the Coravin device, which allows for pours from wine bottles without removing the cork.
Other pours of note: a lineup of Pappy Van Winkle, the super high-end (and expensive) family of liquors that whiskey nerds line up to buy. They're stocking at least six bottles of the stuff, which you can purchase at $20 - $100 for an ounce and from $35 -175 for two ounces.
Cheeses, cured meats and other wine-friendly nibbles make up the food menu. During lunch and happy hour, which runs seven days week, score a selection of five food dishes—including goat cheese, sopressata or a selection of toasts and small sandwiches—for $30 with 20% off house wines by the glass and beers on tap.
Wine Legend joins a swarm of new restaurants and bars opening in Downtown Brooklyn of late. At the end of July, a new brewery and brewpub opened nearby on Lawrence Street, and the Dekalb Market Hall on Albee Square West has already proven itself a winner.
