Earlier this week it was revealed that Jay-Z's 40/40 Club was suing its former chef for a pretty staggering $1.5 million. And now we may know why. It is all apparently about the mix!

See, the suit against chef Mike Shand, who had previously cooked for Jay-Z and Beyonce while they were on tour, said that because of the chef's departure "The club has not been able to adequately replace the items and services defendant was paid to provide." But what were those items and services? Recipes, it seems. Specifically a spice mix. (As we all know, in other galaxies wars are fought over the stuff.)

A source tells Page Six that Shand left the joint after its relaunch and took "the recipes to popular menu items such as chicken wings, forcing the club to sue." But Shand's lawyer says that isn't quite the case. He says that the chef totally handed over all of his recipes. Except for his own spice mix (something we're sure Colonel Sanders would understand). "The spice-mix recipe that Mike developed is his own recipe," lawyer Vik Pawar says. "40/40 terminated him, then had the audacity to sue him for his recipes. He gave them all apart from this spice mix because it is his own."

Interesting they'd care that much about anything Shand was cooking—Yelpers sure didn't seem to care much for the food.
